Honour the Lord with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all your increase;
So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine.
I was pondering on the real meaning behind this verse. What does it really mean for us to be blessed until overflowing?
I realised that a Christian is good for nothing if he sees someone in need, but all he can do is to say, “Don’t worry brother, let me pray for you.”
The Bible teaches us to feed the hungry, clothe the naked and to provide shelter for the needy.
That simply means we should be able to pay for someone else’s food, someone else’s clothes and someone else’s housing rental.
Let me illustrate my point.
You are walking down a street and you see someone half-dead with blood flowing from every opening of his face.
Instead of just saying “Let me pray for you, brother.” How many of us are actually able to send him to the hospital, tell the doctor to DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO MAKE HIM WELL AGAIN, and pay the entire medical and hospitalization bill for him?
And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.
God didn’t promise every believer that he will become wealthy, but God promises that every believer is empowered with the ability to get wealth. This means that we all have the tools, and if we use them correctly, we are able to generate finances.
Nowadays, people are handicapped in the mindset. They restrict themselves to generating income from a salaried career. Hence, they study very hard to be able to get a high-paying job like a doctor or a lawyer.
This is good, but I am sure that we don’t just use a set of tools. There must be a variety.
1. Time and Labour
You are paid an agreed rate for a period of physical labour. Eg Cashier $5/hr.
You are paid according to your skills. Eg. Your employer pays you to fix the motor. You are paid an agreed amount, regardless of how long you take to do it.
You are paid for your wisdom to manage, supervise and oversee a team of skilled employees.
4. Passive income
You take the money you’ve earned through time and labour, skill, and wisdom, and you buy something that generates more income without you having to do anymore work (except some administration). This means buying stocks and properties.
Passive income are areas not within our area of control. We cannot control the inflation rate, the currency exchange rate, and neither can we control the stock exchange rate.
This is when the supernatural power of God comes to work, but how?
We all love the second part of the verse: “So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine.”
But for that to happen, we need the first part of the verse!
“Honour the Lord with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all your increase!”
3 John 1:2
Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.
It is never God’s intention for us to work until we burn out and our health deteriorates. We are to prosper in ALL things and be in health!
Prosperity is the will of God, and it is He who gives us the power to get wealth!
