The most difficult part of Sundown Marathon 2009 was not the distance of 42km, nor the lack of sleep I had. Neither was it the fact that I managed to complete the 42km in my personal best of 6 and a half hours.
The most difficult part of Sundown was that, I managed to endure abrasions in both my heels for more than half the marathon.
I brought the wrong socks and it was too damn short. As a result, the arch support of my running shoes kept rubbing against my heels.
I felt the pain somewhere along the 16km mark and I asked for plasters but the medic had none. Isaac helped me to randomly approach strangers at East Coast Park and I managed to get one plaster, but it wouldn’t stick.
I ended up using masking tape to wrap both my heels. It didn’t help much, but it prevented my skin from peeling off even further.
Basically, I just endured the pain all the way from 16km to 42km,. You can call me sick and perverted, but seeing my shoes and socks stained with blood.. I am proud of myself.
I don’t know why my timing for the first 10km wasn’t captured, resulting in such a long timing for my next 10km.
But overall, my timing is quite satisfactory lah. 🙂
Had a good run, but next up, Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 2009!
