I wasn’t working today so I decided to check out the Johor Premium Outlets that just opened late last year.
It was a 50-minute drive from my place in Bt Panjang, taking into consideration that traffic is really empty on a weekday afternoon and I was averaging 140kmh on Malaysian highway.
I have read from other blogs, and also heard from some of my friends that the premium outlets are really not worth going. There isn’t a wide selection of products available and prices aren’t that cheap, but I thought, “Why not?” It wouldn’t kill to just drop by and take a look.
The place is VERY easy to find if you travel via Tuas. You will just pass through 2 tolls, which cost less than RM12 in total. Take exit 304, and then exit 302A. You will see JPO on your left.
Upon entry, you will get a parking ticket at the gantry. Bring the parking ticket with you when you go shopping, because you will have to pay for the parking at the main lobby. It costs RM3/entry and the machine there only accepts RM1 notes.
I won’t say much about the shopping there, because I can sum it up in one word: Disappointing.
I spent less than 5 minutes at each shop, and the place where I spent the most of my time was actually at Starbucks.
It is very unlike my experience in LA, where I had to return to the car every hour to put down the shopping bags before I could continue shopping for more. In Johor, I managed to walk through the entire outlet mall without even pausing for a toilet break.
For those who are considering to pay JPO a visit, my advice to you: Don’t waste your time.
My only consolation? Shell V-power at RM3/litre on the way back.
