And I went for 10km this morning.
I went all the way to the start line before the race, and I tried to maintain my position within the top few but their paces were too fast for me. I think they were doing around 3.5mins/km whereas I’m more comfortable with 4.5mins/km.
I eventually slowed down after the first 5km and stuck with a more comfortable pace, during which, I saw like 40-50 people overtaking me.
The last 2km were the worst. I wanted to open up my strides and burst through the final stretch but there was too much lactic in my legs and I couldn’t find the strength to do so.
I think, right from the start, I should have focused on my pacing and timing rather than my position.
The problem is not that I didn’t train or that I am physically weak.
I just need to pace myself better and I can definitely achieve < 50 mins. But more than just that, I am still going to put in the extra hours of training this week, And then it's Real Run 15km on Sunday 17 October 2010.
