Check out The Runner’s Gait!
I started running in 2007 and due to frequent injuries on my hamstrings and knees, I was sent to see a specialist during my time in National Service. I was convinced by my podiatrist that I had flat feet and was recommended to get ‘Stability’ shoes. Since then, each time I purchased a pair of running shoes, I always looked out for features that catered to flat feet and overpronation. As a result, my shoes always had very structured cushioning and they were always VERY heavy. My current pair of running shoes weigh 340g on each side.
I paid a visit to The Runner’s Gait this afternoon and did a gait analysis with Sham. He went through a very detailed analysis of my running posture and made me try different pairs of shoes until I was comfortable with the right one. Through his analysis, I realized that the shoes were never the problem with my running (despite having flat feet), but rather, my running posture has always been wrong. Sham corrected me on the spot and after making the necessary adjustments, I was able to run with the Nike LunarSpider and New Balance RC1300 without any problems! This is the first time I was able to wear something so light and so thin; my soles could feel every bump on the floor.
I left the shop with a new pair of RC1300s. They weigh in at 205g. 🙂
Thank you, Sham, for helping me with the gait analysis and for recommending me the appropriate shoes. Today is a new milestone for me, as I realized that I do not have to buy ‘Stability’ shoes anymore!
