Sometimes I wonder about the role that social media plays in our lives.
There are already so many articles that you can read about, but here’s from my personal point of view. I am, after all, a social scientist in-training.
I think social media platforms, such as Twitter, provide an outlet for the social actor to express his emotions to his intended audience. However, he does not really have the intention to engage them in a personal way. He just wants their attention, he wants them to know what he is experiencing, through the script that he is portraying, but at the same time, trying to remain mutually exclusive, and as a separate entity.
Which is why you get the situation whereby somebody tweets something that calls for concern, yet still demands his/her own space when assistance is being rendered, and refuses to share more.
