Unless the Lord builds the house,
They labor in vain who build it;
Unless the Lord guards the city,
The watchman stays awake in vain.
It is vain for you to rise up early,
To sit up late,
To eat the bread of sorrows;
For so He gives His beloved sleep.
A friend once told me, “Rest is a part of training.”
Over the recent years, I learnt that – no matter what you do, rest is always an important part of it.
It is very important to schedule sufficient rest for recovery.
You may have read that taking short naps at work boosts productivity, and I believe that to be true for running, for playing the guitar, for bodybuilding, and for whatever else that you may be doing.
You can’t just bury yourself with work everyday because one day you will just drop dead at your desk.
You can’t just run everyday because your body does not have enough time to condition itself.
You can’t just play the guitar everyday because your fingers need time to build the calluses.
You can’t just lift weights everyday because your muscles need time to recover and repair itself.
More is not necessarily better,
even God rested on the seventh day.
I am very grateful for my current lifestyle. I leave my office punctually on most days, sometimes even earlier. I get to squeeze in time for my work outs. I get to go cell group and church. I would like to think that I live a very well-balanced life. 😉
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” – Mt 11:28
