I was on board a bus where the air-conditioning in the front of the bus was freezing cold, but the air-conditioning at the back of the bus was spoilt. As a result, all the commuters on board squeezed in the first half of the bus.
As the journey progressed, more commuters came on board and being unaware of the situation, they made their way to the back. A few of them soon realized what was happening and quickly made their way to the front to squeeze with the rest.
A stubborn handful stayed at the back, suffering in silence.
I learnt a lesson about conformism.
There is a reason why things are done a certain way. It’s usually the simplest and easiest way, hence it’s popularity with the masses. The majority will only follow a certain method or practice because it is proven effective.
However, a special breed of people called the non-conformists would prefer to do things a different way, probably a creative but tedious method which requires more resources. Perhaps it’s their non-conformal dare-to-be-different mentality, but really, at the end of the day, why don’t they just take the proven easier way out rather than suffer in silence?
